Diabetes Insipidus is a different type of diabetes and is often called "Water Diabetes". While it can have similar symptoms to diabetes mellitus the causes are vastly different. The main differing symptom between diabetes insipidus and diabetes mellitus "diabetes" is that insipidus sufferers produce excessive dilute urine. Whereas Type 1 or Type diabetes causes are primarily based around blood sugar or insulin levels diabetes insipidus is caused by the kidneys not able to properly re-absorb excess urine water.

If a diabetes insipidus sufferer doesn't drink enough fluids then they can suffer dehydration symptoms such as dry skin, fever or rapid heart rate. If they have an electrolyte imbalance then they can suffer from fatigue, lethargy, headache or muscle pain.
